And his name is.....

Well Scott and I have chosen a name for our baby boy.....

Bryce Roper Burrup to be exact.

We have had many long discussion about names, when to pick a name, and when to announce a name. Bryce was really the only name we could both agree on. It has meaning for Scott as it is his Grandfather's name. The name Roper was decided before we were ever married. Scott said the middle name had to be Roper (his mother's maiden name and also Scotts middle name) because there where no children to carry on the family name. I made the name to hang on the wall above the crib. The colors match the fabric we bought for the crib bedding. I can't wait to see the nursery to come together!

26 Weeks
Christmas came and went in a hurry! We spent Christmas Eve with Scotts parents and Christmas Day with my family. I feel so blessed to have the family just minutes away to spend the Holidays with.
Scott went to Dallas this week to spend time with his best friend Ben. I've been lonely without him, but thankful I can spend more time with my family. I've been sleeping at my parents because Im too scared to sleep in my apartment all by myself.

I went for my 28 week labs today. People have been telling me how aweful the glucose test is. Since I had this horrible tasting juice built up in my mind, it didn't really taste that bad when it finally came time to drink it. It tasted just like orange soda that had gone flat. The last couple of swigs were
difficult as it made my stomach feel weird. Bryce, who had been rather still all night/morning, started turning cartwheels as soon as I finished drinking the glucose drink. Liquid sugar straight in his bloodstream! I assume everything was ok. I guess I'll hear something if it wasn't. I only gained 3 lbs between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Im not sure how that is possible. Im pretty sure I would have gained 3 lbs even if I wasn't pregnant. My blood pressure was good and his heartbeat was strong!

you'd think i weighed 600 lbs from the look of my ankle
Dr Wyatt also looked at my ears. Theyve been clogged for ab 2 weeks now. His hypothesis is that Im just swollen all over, including my ear canal. So the fluid in my ear cant drain out. He said it is possible that I may just have to suffer a clogged ear until I deliver. He said to try the Sudafed again and see if that changed anything. But I can happily report my heartburn is pretty much non exsistant. (Whew! that only lasted 14 weeks).

As Im 2 days away from the 3rd trimester, I feel like my bump is isn't a bump anymore, its a hump. Im started to slow down a bit. Suddenly its kinda hard to get up outta chairs. Im pretty sure I look like 90 year old when I try to get out of the car. I dont think Ive started the pregant lady waddle yet.

Nursery!

So this week marked 25 weeks! Can't believe that the 3rd trimester is almost here!

Yesterday Scott and I got started on our mini apartment make over. The problem was that when we moved in back in June, we just dumped all the extra stuff in the second bedroom. We didn't know we were pregnant, so we didn't foresee needing the second bedroom just yet. The other problem is that I have an incredible amount of classroom things boxed up. Some of it, I've been able to use in my preschool room, but the majority of it is still boxed up in second bedroom closet. I've been very much stressed out over making room for the baby.

Here is a before picture of the second bedroom/ nursery. A desk, bookshelf, sewing machine, and bunch of crap.

Step 1: Move all teaching stuff into the outside storage closet on our balcony
Step 2: Roll sewing machine into the now empty nursery closet
Step 3: Move desk into our bedroom
Step 4: Move recliner/rocker from living room into nursery
Step 5: Assemble crib!

Here is a before picture of our bedroom. Just a bed, nightstand, and a dresser. In order to fit the desk in without it being really crammed, we had to move everything!

After! I actually like this set up better anyways! We still need to rehang all the pictures.

We still have alot of work to do. We left the book shelf in the nursery and it is covered in junk. Sally is making the crib bedding, I can't wait to see it finished! And obviously, it needs some curtains and decorations!

24 Weeks

24 Weeks

Man, I feel like my belly is really getting out there! I know the next few weeks are gonna fly by with the holidays coming up and before I know it, it will be January and he will be soon be his way. I've been kinda stressed about getting the nursery ready. We are still in the process of getting the second bedroom cleaned out and organized. There will be a great shifting of furnature so I can have my dream nursery. I can't wait for it to come together!

I just bought some maternity jeans at Old Navy tonight so I can' have something to wear to work. All my scrubs (that i bought at 13 weeks) are gettin too tight. I dont have any new pregnancy symptoms this week. Still have the heartburn, swelling feet and hands, and trouble sleeping.

I saw the Dr last week and everything looks good! Blood pressure good, weight gain good, and baby boys heartbeat good. At 10 weeks I remember the Dr pushing and rolling the thing around on my belly to find the heartbeat and it was so faint sounding. This time, I could hear the his heart loud and strong as soon as the dopler touched my skin.

Probably the most exciting that that has happened since my last update is that I can now SEE his kicks. I watched my belly jump all through church. Looks kinda like I have popcorn popping in my belly.

Not much else has been going on outside of the normal humdrum of life with the exception that Im almost finished with my first quilting project. I still need to put on the inner border, outer border, binding, and backing. Too bad its pink! Oh well, maybe one day I'll have a little girl to give it some use.

Thanksgiving (Week 22 & 23)

I have really enjoyed being off work for 4 days! I have enjoyed the food even better! Thursday we spent most of the day with Scott's family and friends and ate a delicious Thanksgiving day meal. We then headed over to my Aunts house to visit for a bit and see my Grandparents. On Friday, we spent the day with my parents and brother and watched the Razorback game. The second half was heartbreaking to watch so Mom and I got busy in the kitchen. I made an apple pie from scratch. I don't brag about my cooking much but I have to admit, it was pretty amazing! We had another amazing Thanksgiving dinner.

Today we went fabric shopping with Sally to pic out fabrics for the crib bedding. Here is just a preview:

These 2 fabrics will make the bumper pads. We plan on making them reversible.

The checked green will make the crib skirt. We plan on adding a small strip of the other fabric along the bottom of the skirt to tie in the blue and orange.

And all these beautiful fabrics will be used to make the baby quilt. The ruffles and backing will be done in blue, so that will be the predominate color in the quilt.

New Pregnancy Symptoms:

Numbness in Hands: I have woken up almost every night this week with my hands numb. I read that this is normal and is basically pregnancy induced Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. All that fluid from my feet gets redistributed through out my body while I'm laying down, even to my wrist and hands. This puts pressure on the nerves in my wrist, making them go numb. Should go away as soon as I deliver.

Snoring: According to Scott my snoring has now reached epic decibel level. I no longer snore like a "warthog", but now I snore like a "monster".

Heartburn: Thank goodness this one has gone from severe to just bad. My daytime heartburn is almost gone, but it still plagues me at night.

23 Weeks
Our son was just as disappointed in the game this week :(

Weeks 20 and 21

Our little boy loves to kick his momma! I feel him kick everyday now. His kicks are getting stronger and easier to feel. I still can only feel it when I'm laying down or sitting still. I had the special feeling of felling him turn sideways on Saturday morning. All these weeks, his kicks have been down really low. Then, my stomach got really hard and I got kinda worried as to what he was doing, then all of a sudden the kicks where up higher and on my right side. I guess he still has enough room to turn completely sideways. Oddly, he must of turned back head up when I was sleeping because his kicks are now back down real low again. Scott can now feel the kicks if he pushes on my belly a little.

No one told me that the sleepless nights of motherhood started months before the baby arrived! Between the non-stop heartburn, getting up to pee multiple times a night, being hot, and not be able to sleep on my belly have really taken a toll on my sleep. Scott says I've been "snoring like a warthog" for the past 2 weeks. According to What To Expect When You're Expecting, this is actually a side effect of pregnancy. Who knew?
20 Weeks

21 Weeks

This is the BEFORE picture of the nursery:
1. Clean out all the closets
2. Clean out the 2nd bedroom
3. Rearrange furniture
4. Assemble crib
5. Make curtains
I want this done by mid February. We have 3 months. (Man time is flying by!)

This is the first purchase I have made for baby! I was inspired by the bright orange onsie that said "Daddy's #1 draft pic". I bought the 3 months size. I wonder how long he will be that tiny?

Yesterday we made a trip to Walmart to buy a crib. We actually went with another crib in mind but liked this one on display better! Its still in the box in our living room. It will be awhile before we get it put together for sure.

In case you didn't hear, ITS A BOY!

So yesterday we had our 20 week ultrasound and got to see our little miracle, our son! I was complete nervous wreck all day. I just wanted to see our baby and know everything was ok. Gratefully, he was!

When the ultrasound tech put the wand on my belly and an image of a baby came up on the screen my heart fluttered! I knew I was pregnant, had heard the heart beat, and felt him move many many times, but it still shocked me to see what was really in there! A baby!

It is really amazing what you can actually see in an ultrasound. I think one of the coolest things was not only could we see his heart, and see it beating, we could see all 4 chambers and the valves opening and closing. When we looked at the baby's brain we could see the "fold" in the brain that runs right down the middle. She also did this colorful picture of the cord and could see where the cord entered the baby and split into 2 inside the baby (apparently that's what its supposed to do, who knew?). Some other body parts we got to see where the stomach, bladder, kidneys, spine, bones, ribs, fingers, and of course his sweet little face.

Throughout the whole ultrasound the tech was measuring the babies bones, head, and belly. Then the computer crunched all the numbers and told us that he weights about 13 oz. She then said "Unless something drastic happens, don't expect a 6lb baby" She then went on to tell us that most babies fall somewhere around the 50th percentile. Wanna know what percentile he was in? Brace yourself.... the 91st! Which means he's huge for his gestational age. I'm trying not to panic just yet, his growth could slow down and taper off and end up being 7-8 lbs range. I'm not going to bother buying any "newborn" sized clothing, since he probably wont fit in any. Maybe I should switch to skim milk????

When we left, I think I was still in a little denial that it was boy. I couldn't really see what the technician was pointing at in the appointment, but when I got home and popped in the CD there was no denying it was a little boy. :)

Everyone keeps asking me if Scott is overjoyed at the news that the baby is a boy. He was pretty quiet throughout the whole ultrasound, I think he was more in shock than I was.

I could really go on and on...but I just indulge you in some pics

18 Weeks

I'm glad that working full time makes the days fly by. I can't believe I'll be 19 weeks tomorrow!

Ive been feeling the baby move a lot this past week. I can feel it when I'm laying in bed or on the couch and sometimes when I'm sitting still. At first it felt like muscle twitch, then like big marble rolling around. Last Saturday I had the thrill of feeling a fist or a foot push/kick my tummy from the far right and moved to the far left. I always enjoy feeling the baby move, it ensures me that its still alive and doing well.

This coming Tuesday, we will be finding out if our little bean is a boy or a girl. I, of course, am hoping for a girl, but I will be just as thrilled if it is a boy. Scott of course wants a boy. Pretty typical I guess. I'm just as excited to see our baby up on the monitor and be able to see its hands, feet, face, spine, etc. I just mostly want to be reassured that everything is going normal and on track. I guess knowing the sex is just a bonus.

We've been debating baby names. Scott is pretty adamant about keeping the baby's name a secret until the day of the delivery for the purpose of making sure the baby actually looks like the name we pick. I really hate this idea. No one picks out a baby name based on what the baby looks like. Newborns are all squished up and look completely different a month later. I have tried to make him see the logic. I guess I will just have to suck it up and just respect his wishes. So sorry, I guess you will be left in suspense until the baby arrives.

Purely for my own entertainment I have compiled a list of predictions if it is a girl or boy:

1) If you’re carrying in your hips, you’re having a girl. If you’re carrying in your belly, you’re having a boy. = BOY

2) Chinese Gender Chart = GIRL

3) Craving sweets its a girl, crave salty things its a boy = well I crave both?

4) Hair growing faster means boy, hair grows the same means girl = BOY

5) Nails growing faster means boy, nails growing the same means girl = BOY

6) Sleep on left means boy, sleep on right means girl = I roll all over the bed, this one is no help

7) Extreme morning sickness means girl= BOY

8) Dry hands means boy, soft hands means girl = GIRL

9) Clearer skin mans boy, acne means girl =BOY

10) Graceful means girl, clumsy means boy = BOY

11) Weight gain in the face means girl = GIRL

12) If a toddler boy pays attention to your belly then its boy, if a toddler girl pays attention its a boy = BOY

Pretty obvious that I should be having a BOY! We will find out next week!

Its Fall Yall!

Has that much time really gone by since my last post????

Well, we have been up to alot. I started a new job at The Center for Early Learning teaching 3-4 year olds with special needs. My first few weeks were really hard. Some of my students are very high functioning, while others are not. I have gained alot of patience in the last few weeks, and gotten really good at record speed diaper changes! :) Scott is still going strong in school at UALR and working at Chick Fil A.

Last Weekend we went to the pumpkin patch with my family! Here are some pics!

My mom and I also went to Hobby Lobby and we bought some wreath making gear for $16! I had alot of fun making my first wreath, I can't wait to make a Christmas one.

And of course I have to do a baby update. I feel like my bump actually is starting to look like a bump and not just like a fat roll. I can't sleep on my stomach anymore :( because I can feel the tight little lump down there :). I spend a couple of minutes each day laying still on my back to see if I can feel any quivering of our little one. Sometimes I think its just my mind playing games on me or just gas but I think I've felt a slight fluttering! I long for the day to feel the first real kicks. I have an ultrasound scheduled for November 1st, just over 2 weeks away. We hope to find out if we will have a little boy or a little girl! For whatever reason, since the day I found out I was pregnant, I had this strong conviction it was a girl. However, over the past few weeks, I have started to feel it was a boy. I have no idea why, but I just think its a boy.

Symptoms Ive had this past month:

Heartburn/reflux
Swelling of hands and feet
Peed in my pants after sneezing

Weeks 12 & 13

I know, I know. I'm not doing so great at keeping the blog updated! I've really dropped the ball on taking weekly pictures (or should I say, Scott is never home to take them for me). Nothing new to really update except what little nausea I did have has completely vanished. However, my feet are still swelling daily.

I've been keeping busy subbing and working after school care. Scott is busy with work and school. Our lives these days are a careful orchestrated schedule of who needs the car and when. However, I have been overly forgetful the past couple of weeks so even keeping up with when I need to pick up my husband is a challenge.

I went to a sewing class and sewed a skirt for my little cousin. Maybe I'll update some pictures soon. I also have several other ongoing sewing projects in the works that I maybe I could post soon.

Excited the first trimester is over,
Katee

11 weeks!

So this week I hit 11 weeks! I have a little bump, or at least I like to think so, even though Im pretty sure that belly was there before I was prego. I can't seem to get enough pickles these days (typical right?). Scott was tired of going to buy them every other day so he invested in the big jar! It was such a sweet suprise! This week I started subbing, so I've been spending more time on my feet than Im used to, so I now have "Monster Foot". You can see the imprint of the top of my shoe. If anyone would like to donate money so I can get a pedicure so you dont have to see more of my aweful toenails, feel free!

Whew! Its been a good while! Alot has changed in our lives since my last post, so I will catch you up. Around Christmas, we decided that we wanted to move back home to Arkansas. We both worked very hard for the next 6 months to save up money to make the move possible. We packed up the moving truck and pulled back into Little Rock on June 10! We are so excited to be south of the Mason-Dixon. More importantly, we are excited about being around our friends and family.

Even more exciting news, on our 2nd anniversary, we found out that we will have a little one on the way! That is what has inspired me to restart my blog. There will many more updates on that over the next 8 months! This will more or less become my pregnancy journal.
